Torcher/Burner Job Description

Job Title: Torcher

Department: Travel Crew

Reports to: Site Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-exempt, Hourly

Position Summary: The incumbent will be responsible for cutting new production and obsolete scrap metal to customer specifications.

Specific Duties:
 

  • Torch cut new production scrap, obsolete scrap including cast iron, machinery, and nonferrous metals.

  • Repair torch hose.

  • Comply with Premier Scrap Processing policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

  • Comply with customer policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

  • To perform all other duties as assigned by the Site Supervisor.

Equipment:

Successful incumbent should be familiar with the following equipment:

  1. Torches

  2. Torch gauges

  3. Torch hose repair

  4. Small hand tools

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma Preferred

  2. Previous experience torch cutting scrap

  3. Valid Driver’s License

  4. Ability to travel; out of town and overnights as needed.

  5. Ability to wear required PPE; chaps, jacket, nomex hood, safety glasses, hard hat, face shield, gloves and Respirator.

  6. Ability to work long hours and weekends

  7. Must be flexible; able to work either day shift or night shift as needed.

  8. Ability to work independently

  9. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.

  10. Ability to work well with others including fellow employees, outside vendors, contractors, and customers.

  11. Self-motivated individual.

  12. Ability to bend, squat, and lift frequently.

  13. Ability to lift-up to at least 50 (fifty) pounds.

Work Environment

  • This position requires work outdoors and exposed to outdoor environments.

  • This position requires working independently, as well as part of a team.

  • This position requires verbal and face-to-face contact with others on a daily basis.

  • This position requires working around heavy equipment.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequency Key: Never – 0 hours; Rare – up to 1 hour; Occasional – 1-3 hours; Frequent – 3-6 hours; Constant – 6-8 hours.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work –

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. But some after-hours may be required.
